Used or New Pallet Racking – What Is the Difference and Which Is for Me?

When the time comes to shop for pallet racking, there are basically two categories to go for. Along with extensive collections of brand-new racking, it’s also common these days for manufacturers to offer used pallet racking. The question being – which makes the better buy?

Well, the simple answer is that it all comes down to both expectations and requirements, with regard to the buyer and the business. In addition, the quality of the used pallet racking for sale will always vary significantly, in accordance with the seller. So it’s important to check things out carefully before going ahead, but what exactly are the key differences between new and used pallet racking?

Condition

In terms of condition, used pallet racking these days is sold in every imaginable state of repair. Some list and sell racking that is clearly on its last legs, while others insist only on selling used racking that’s in excellent condition. This is something that needs to be checked out by the buyer before going ahead, which may mean contacting the brand directly.

In the case of quality used racking, it’s more than likely that there will be at least a little cosmetic damage in places, which is inevitable when racks have been used for heavy-duty storage purposes. Nevertheless, this doesn’t have to mean there’s actually anything wrong with the racking in terms of reliability and performance.

As for new racking, this is technically the only way of guaranteeing products that are 100% flawless in terms of both appearance and performance alike.

Quality and Warranties

As already touched upon, used pallet racking exists in so many different guises that each item needs to be assessed for quality individually. If you work with a reliable brand that only offers the highest-end used racking that’s been comprehensively checked, quality need not be a concern.

That being said, it is rare to come across used pallet racking for sale that comes with the same long-term warranty as you’d expect with brand new racking. As such, if warranties are a matter of importance, it may be necessary to go for new racking. It all depends on the retailer and the specific products, so be sure to ask as many questions as necessary before going ahead.

Price

Last but not least, usually the biggest difference of all when it comes to new and used pallet racking is the price you can expect to pay. For obvious reasons, used pallet racking will always be considerably cheaper than brand new racking. But at the same time, it may not have a warranty quite as long as that you’d expect with new pallet racking.

As for which represents the best choice, is all comes down to your own unique circumstances, the job that needs to be done and the available budget. That being said, to deal only with a quality retailer means getting an outstanding deal, regardless of whether you choose new or used pallet racking.
