While installing your mezzanine staircase for your warehouse storage, it’s important to think about your design options. Are you looking for something that is simple and functional? Perhaps you would prefer a staircase that has the wow-factor of aesthetic appeal? Here at Monarch Shelving Ltd, we can help our clients in finding the right mezzanine staircase that will work for their needs.
Part K Staircases
Starting with the basics, you may hear the term “part K” being used to describe mezzanine staircases. When we use this term, we are actually referring to building regulations. This is the staircase that is most commonly used by warehouse management. This is a design that is best suited for those who are able-bodied. This means the likes of your warehouse storage users.
Part M Staircases
Though you may argue that “part K” staircases can get the job done, something is often disregarded. This type of staircase does not take into account the need for disabled access. This is why we have “part M” staircases. As a general rule of thumb, “part M” staircases are wider and have shallow steps. They also have intermediate landings. They address specific access needs but don’t necessarily address the need for stairlifts or personnel lifts. These are things that may be additionally required for larger floor spaces. These staircases are needed to meet building regulations for public access areas. This includes retail spaces where access to the mezzanine floor is also public.
External Stairs
Commonly known as fire escapes, external stairs are a safety measurement set out in the building regulations in part B2 for fire safety. As a rule of thumb, the larger the mezzanine floor, the more people are likely to occupy the space. As a result of this, more staircases are needed. This also means that larger stairs are needed. The existing layout of your building and its fire exits will be considered for implementing external staircases.
Spiral Staircases
If you are after a staircase that is practical, while also aesthetically pleasing, then opt for a spiral staircase. They can offer dramatic flare but are also ideal for companies that have limited space to work with. This means there is more space left for the mezzanine level and ground floor. They can give your building a contemporary feel. Our team will help you choose a stylish design to fit with your building.
