Drive-in (or drive-thru) racking is an ever so popular storage option. It has the ability to provide your warehouse with 75 per cent more pallets than your average pallet rack. However, there are some instances where drive-in racking isn’t a suitable option for storage applications. Here, we have a list of the best time to use drive-in pallet racking for your business!
Drive-in racking: benefits
Drive-in racking is used for the purpose of stocking pallets of similar products. Forklifts drive into the rack and pull the first pallet out. This follows the “last in, first out” storage system, which is also referred to as LIFO. If you are storing an item that is time sensitive, this may not be the best method. It may also be suitable if you have seasonal products as these would only need to be accessed at specific times of the year. When they are no longer needed, they can simply be placed o the back to be stored until the season returns.
Drive-in racking: uses
Drive-in racking is commonly used for cold storage applications. This is to help store as much product as possible into a freezer space, effectively saving money on more freezer storage solutions. A considerable number of similar items can be stored in a single pallet position and accessed in a LIFO system. If the storage capacities of all your loads are similar, then this is an option you should consider.
